WHAT DOES YOUR MINISTRY INVOLVE?MWSC Breakfast clubs is open for all students twice a week on the Junior Campus 8am-9am and once a week on the Senior Campus 8am-9am.
It's a space for students to fuel up for the day, whether they rush out of the house too quickly, don't have many options at home, or that they just want a snack. Regardless the reason, this allows space for all students to come and make connections with people they otherwise wouldn't in a safe and encouraging environment.
WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN YOUR MINISTRY RECENTLY?We just started running the breakfast clubs on the senior side on the 2nd week of this term. The first 3 weeks were quite slow, sometimes being only 1 student, which has now exploded to being an average of 30 students per day.
WHAT HAS BEEN ENCOURAGING?I have found that, in this term, consistently there has been at least 2 new faces at breakfast club per week. Some including those referred to wellbeing, growing in connections and noticeably presenting with an increase in mood.
WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU BEEN FACING?I must say that the earlier mornings are hard, especially Monday mornings as I often must go past the grocery store to get supplies. But when I see how many kids turn up, I think of how hard it must be for them to get up in the morning as well and how the breakfast club makes that experience a little bit more positive for them.
HOW HAVE YOU SEEN GOD AT WORK?In the connections made, especially with those referred to wellbeing that didn't want support from that setting, being too intimidating, how they have slowly started to join in with breakfast club, giving me small opportunities to build rapport with these students where I otherwise wouldn't have had that opportunity.
HOW CAN OUR CHURCH BE PRAYING FOR YOUR MINISTRY?Please pray for the continued opportunities to connect with students, for myself as a chaplain especially for the cold Monday mornings, to help me remember what's important in those moments, to maintain that consistency for the students. Please also pray for the young people who would benefit from joining this group, that God will give them the courage to walk through those doors and ask for a cheese toasty.
HOW PEOPLE CAN SERVE IN YOUR MINISTRY?We are currently needing 2 volunteers on Thursday mornings with the Senior Campus, someone who is really good at engaging with young people and has a good understanding of safe practice and is willing to go through Scripture Union SP3 training.
HOW PEOPLE CAN GIVE TO YOUR MINISTRY?We are still running on Woolworths gift certificates donated a couple of years ago. This is to purchase bread, juice and cheese each week. We're expecting these vouchers to last until the end of term. Bread donations (as we freeze our bread) as well as monetary donations are greatly appreciated and continue to help the club be run continuously.
