Thanks so much for being willing to help with our Easter stage design by making paper flowers.
These flowers will be used at services in both the West and East Auditoriums on Easter Sunday.
Below are the different types of flowers and foliage you can make.
Super Easy - Only involve cutting and maybe some folding. No glue needed. These should be easy enough for kids to help with, as long as they can use scissors.
Easy - These involve slightly more difficult shapes to cut, and will require some bending and glueing. Crafty kids in middle-late primary and older should be able to handle this with some help from an adult.
For Super Easy...
Printed paper templates - you can collect these at the church. In the West they can be found at the Connect Desk. In the East they can be collected from the table next to the kitchen (outside the East Meeting Room).
Scissors
For Easy and Harder, also these...
A round pencil or something similar for bending petal edges
Glue - PVA/Craft Glue will work on all of these. However, if you have a Hot Glue Gun and are confident in using it, feel free - it makes the process faster.
We have recorded some very short and quick tutorial videos for each of the flower and leaf options. They run from about 30 seconds to 90 seconds and will give you a good idea of what to do.
Returning the flowers
Please return the completed flowers by Sunday April 2.
Once you have made your flowers and they are dry, you can place them in a bag and bring them to church. You can put the flowers into the large cardboard boxes marked 'Paper Flowers' which can be found in both the West and East wings of the church.
In the West you will find the box upstairs next to the door leading out onto High Street Rd.
In the East you will find the box on the tables next to the kitchen in the Fellowship Area.
The easiest things you can help us make are leaves.
These only require cutting and folding and come in A4 and A3 size sheets.
For each of these, simply cut around the outside line of the leaf.
Fold the leaves in half (lengthways) down the middle, then open out.
Please note: with the large banana leaf, please fold so the black cutting lines are on the bottom/back.
Watch the video tutorial to show you how to take our basic leaf shapes and give them extra shape and texture.
Please note: with the large banana leaf, please fold so the black cutting lines are on the bottom/back.
These flowers require slightly more complicated cutting, some bending and glueing.
If you take multiple print-outs of the same flower but in different colours, you can mix and match the layers so you have a multi coloured flower.
This template has 3 pieces per flower (2 flowers are printed on each page).
1) Cut out each piece
2) Place a round pencil or other round thin object in the centre of each petal and bend the petal around it, until each petal has a nice curve.
3) On the largest piece, bend the petals upwards near the centre so the petals are all tilting up.
4) On the middle piece, do the same, with a slightly stronger bend. Glue this layer into the centre of the large layer.
5) On the smallest piece, bend the petals right into the centre and release. Glue this layer into the centre of the medium layer.
6) Leave to dry.
This template uses 3 different pieces.
1) Cut out each piece
2) Fold each petal in half lengthways from the top of the petal (at the point) down about 3/4 of the way.
3) On the large layer, bend the petals upwards near the centre so the petals are all tilting up.
4) On the middle piece, do the same, with a slightly stronger bend. Glue this layer into the centre of the large layer.
5) On the smallest piece, bend the petals right into the centre and release. Glue this layer into the centre of the medium layer.
6) Leave to dry.
These flowers have 4 pieces to cut out (L, M, S, XS) across 2 pages.
1) Cut out each of the four pieces
2) Place a round pencil or other round thin object in the centre of each petal and bend the petal around it, until each petal has a nice curve.
3) On the Large piece, bend the petals upwards near the centre so the petals are all tilting up.
4) On the Medium and Small pieces, do the same, with a slightly stronger bend than the previous layer. Glue each layer into the centre of the previous layer,
5) On the XS piece, bend the petals right into the centre and release. Glue this layer into the centre of the medium layer.
6) Leave to dry.
This flower has 5 pieces to cut out (L, M, S, XS) across 2 pages.
1) Cut out each of the four pieces
2) Fold each petal in half lengthways from the top of the petal (at the point) down about 3/4 of the way.
3) On the Large layer, bend the petals upwards slightly near the centre so the petals are all tilting up.
4) On the Medium and Small pieces, do the same, with a slightly stronger bend than the previous layer. Glue each layer into the centre of the previous layer,
5) On the XXS piece, bend the petals right into the centre and release. Glue this layer into the centre of the medium layer.
6) Leave to dry.
