Meaningful discussions, great friendships, and wrestling with how faith influences life as a young adult.
Our bracket is 18–30ish, but we mainly go by your season of life rather than your birthday.
Small groups meet most Wednesday nights of the month in members' homes or at the church. Learn more about Life Groups below.
Once a month Our YA Life Groups gather for dinner, helpful content and conversation. Runs 6:30–9:00pm. More information below.
Central is all about connecting young adults with one another, and growing passionate and resilient followers of Jesus. On the first Wednesday of each month we gather in the West Auditorium at Syndal Baptist Church — dinner together from 6:30pm, a laugh, and then guest speakers or Syndal leaders on the topic we're exploring. From there we break into our Life Groups to talk through what we've heard, the questions it raised, and what wisdom and direction the Bible has to offer. We wrap up by 9:00pm. Whether you've been part of church your whole life or you're only starting to explore faith, you're welcome here.
CENTRAL
Central is essentially a gathering of a number of different Young Adult Life Groups, meeting on Wednesdays in members' homes or at the church. We'd love to help you find the one that fits you best.
A small group of around 6–20 people aged 18–30ish who meet together to learn about Jesus and share life with each other.
It might be a Bible study, a social night, or joining a wider church activity like a prayer and vision night. Most groups also take a week off here and there, depending on life rhythms and busy seasons.
Every group has its own style and flavour, so we aim to connect you with one that suits your age, stage and personality. We have several groups meeting this year and they'd love to have you join them.
Tell us a little about yourself and we'll help connect you with the group that's the best fit for you.
Other churches call them small groups, cell groups or connect groups — they're all essentially the same thing. A Life Group is a small group of people, usually somewhere between 6 and 20, who meet regularly to learn about Jesus, grow in faith, share, pray and have fun hanging out together. It's a small community of people committed to one another and intentionally exploring what it means to know and follow Jesus.
Central runs on the first Wednesday of each month in the West Auditorium at Syndal Baptist Church. Dinner is from roughly 6:30–7:15pm, the session runs from around 7:15–8:00pm, and from there we move into guided Life Group conversations that aim to wrap up by 9:00pm.
On the other Wednesdays of the month, Life Groups meet on their own — usually in a group member's home, sometimes at the church.
Dinner at Central is $15, which covers a meal and a can of soft drink. We don't want cost to be a barrier to you coming though — if that's not something you can afford, please reach out to Pastor Micah at mevans@sb.org.au. You're also welcome to bring your own meal if you'd prefer.
It varies. We might have someone from the Young Adult community share their story or their experience of life with Jesus, a panel of people answering questions on the topic we're covering, leaders and pastors from Syndal teaching from the Bible, or guest speakers on different aspects of life and faith.
Each block of the year explores one topic that connects with the questions and experiences young adults most commonly come across, and how faith in Jesus and the wisdom of the Bible interact with those things.
Yes! In fact we hope that coming along to Central is how you find a great Life Group that suits your age, stage and personality.
Newcomers to Syndal and to Central are welcome to connect with a Life Group on the night, any time of year, and we have a number of leaders and staff who are happy to walk through that process with you.
Yes. We're working to keep our Life Groups as balanced and inclusive as possible, which means forming groups where people are alongside others of similar age and life stage.
To help with that, if you'd like to change groups please get in touch with Micah, our Young Adults Pastor (mevans@sb.org.au), or Natalie, our Administrator (ndeveson@sb.org.au) — or just submit a Join a Group form on this page.
Absolutely. The content of our sessions and studies is aimed at Christians seeking to follow Jesus, but if you're comfortable with that, we hope you have a great time and feel really welcome.
You'll be invited to jump into a Life Group on the night — a smaller group where we talk through what we've heard in the session, and about life and faith more generally. If you find anything confusing, there are plenty of people happy to answer your questions and chat more about faith in Jesus.
We hope most people can arrange their week to keep Wednesday nights free so they can be part of Central, but we know that won't always be possible.
If you can't make Central but would still like to be connected to a Life Group, fill out the Join a Group form and simply don't select the option saying you're able to attend Central on Wednesday nights. We'll be in touch to help you find something that works.
Our age bracket is 18–30ish, but we mainly go by season of life. Plenty of people are in a different season to others their age, or have most of their friends in their twenties, and we recognise there are people well into their thirties who still very much identify with the young adult age and stage. We want them to feel welcome and at home at Central.
If you're mid-to-late thirties and would like to commit to a Syndal Life Group, email our Life Groups Pastor, Mandy Stark (mstark@sb.org.au), and she'll help connect you with one of the other great groups at Syndal that run outside Central and the Young Adults ministry.
We would love to hear what God has been doing in the lives of our community. If you have a story to share, please let us know.
